Jeddah: Monday, the second phase of Saudi Arabia’s move to localize professions in grocery shops and supermarkets went into effect.
This phase intends to cut the number of foreign employees in sales roles. Such as department manager, deputy branch manager, and branch manager.

According to the procedure guide for localizing grocery chain and supermarket jobs, the second phase begins after 360 days from the publication of the decision on Safar 25, 1442 AH (October 12, 2020).
The judgment applies to all retail chains with less than 300 square meters. It also applies to supermarkets with less than 500 square meters.

In the first phase, sales jobs were limited to Saudis (customer accountants, accounting fund supervisors, customer service, customer relations). Just half of the department supervisors were getting localized.
Ministry of Social Development and Human Resources declared the localization of 20 professions and activities. From several sectors by 2021 and almost 378,000 job positions.
HRSD made these decisions to provide stimulating and productive job possibilities for Saudi people throughout the Kingdom. The decisions increase their labor market participation in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 aims.
