Globally, one person visits the emergency room every three minutes due to a food allergy
Riyadh: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA); revealed several facts and information about food allergies and their causes in a recent statement.

The SFDA clarified that food susceptibility is a reaction that affects the immune system; toward a specific type of food that a person eats. The immune system wrongly identifies this food as harmful to the body.

The statement revealed that 50% of food allergy; cases that affect humans were caused by eating food from outside the home.

Food allergy affects many people globally, as it turns out that every 3 minutes; a person visits the emergency room in a hospital due to exposure to allergy.
There is a strong understanding that most common food types cause 90% of food allergies—which numbers about 170 different food items.

The SFDA revealed the most common types of food; susceptible to cause food allergies are,
- nuts,
- eggs,
- milk,
- soybean,
- crustaceans (shellfish),
- fish, and
- grains.

SFDA clarified further the symptoms caused by allergies. The symptoms include
- headache,
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- sneezing,
- coughing,
- fainting,
- difficulty breathing,
- stomach pain, and
- skin rashes.
The allergy triggers are inhalation, touching, and ingestion.
