Riyadh: A spokesman for the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) has confirmed the imminent approval of insurance for domestic labor (worker) contracts.

During an interview with Al-Ekhbariya, Saad Al-Hammad said insurance for domestic labor (worker) contracts was vital to protect and conserve the rights of both the employers and the workers.

He stated that the scheme’s procedures were in the final phase of completion before linking it with the Musaned platform.

The insurance would conserve the employer’s rights by compensating them with the expenses of recruiting a replacement worker in the event of the worker’s death.

Additionally, it would protect the employer’s right if a worker is unable to work because of chronic and critical diseases. The scheme also compensates employers if a worker refuses to work or abstains from work.

Concerning the rights of domestic workers, Al-Hammad said the scheme would compensate workers in the case of permanent disability or partial disability resulting from an accident. He added that this scheme would make the Saudi labor market even more attractive.

Al-Hammad confirmed that recruitment offices failing to observe the cost of hiring workers might face withdrawal of permits.

He stressed the importance of bringing awareness to employers to conclude contracts only through the Musaned platform.

The MHRSD had earlier called on recruitment companies and establishments not to cross the upper ceiling of the approved costs for hiring domestic workers.
