Riyadh: Foreigners living in Saudi Arabia can now renew their residency permit (iqama) every quarter; and carry a digital copy of the iqama on their smartphones.
This facility is available on Absher Afrad (Individual) platform and among many launched by Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Saud Bin Naif, the Minister of Interior, on Wednesday.

The Absher Afrad services also carry the expatriate’s consent service to permit the transfer of his employment to a new company/employer; and the registration of dependents and companions of expatriates on the Absher platform.
This registration service is also available for visitors and citizens of other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. Expatriates can have a Resident ID electronic card service to keep digital iqama on their smartphones. According to the Government’s updated system, iqama (residency permit) fees can now be paid quarterly or half-yearly.
Accordingly, the banks will accept the payment of the fee for the work permit by the employer for a minimum three-month period or multiples up to a whole year. In addition, a work permit is linked to the issuance and renewal of an iqama.

The new Absher Afrad services also included renewal of the national ID service. Issuing electronic ID in place of a lost one, passport services for foster families, and Absher reports service.
