He did not comment on his resignation yet. Nor to accompany his Facebook photo of Boris Nemtsov on the anniversary of his killing given the Kremlin.

According to the Tass News Service, he has left Russia and resigned as President Putin’s special representative.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “Yes, Chubais has resigned of his own will. But whether he has left or stayed, that’s his personal affair”.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhaylo Podolyak made an observation. Russia’s senior security leaders, Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov and Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, were “nowhere to be seen.” So were Russia’s secret services heads.

Despite holding the position of special representative for relations with international organizations, Chubais was not considered a Kremlin insider.

He is best known for his contentious role in helping to modernize Russia’s economy after the Soviet Union’s demise in the 1990s. President Boris Yeltsin’s wave of privatizations aided in forming a huge number of extremely wealthy oligarchs.

Chubais’ resignation did not go over well with the opposition. Kira Yarmysh, a spokesperson for jailed leader Alexei Navalny, questioned allegations of it being an anti-war protest. Instead of “out of fear for his skin and money.”

Russia has repressed criticism of the invasion, which began on February 24. This forced state-run media to call it a “special military operation.”

Several state TV journalists have quit, including Channel One Editor Marina Ovsyannikova. Marina held up a “Stop the War!” poster during a prime-time news show, warning Russians they were being lied to.

New legislation prohibits the dissemination of “fake news” regarding the war. Journalist Alexander Nevzorov became the most prominent figure yet to be charged. The journalist posted details on social media about Russia’s devastating strike on a maternity facility in Mariupol, Ukraine. — Associated Press
