Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali confirmed that a Saudi national who had arrived from an African country has tested positive for the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
The infected person and those in contact with them are currently isolated and under all preventive measures. Dr. Al-Abdel Ali said the coronavirus mutation observed in more than 21 countries worldwide has its rapid spread attributed to the lack of immunization against COVID-19.

The World Health Organization designated Omicron a “variant of concern” due to its changing behavior and the severity of infection; its response to vaccines, the speed of its spread, and the possibility of further mutations.
Studies on Omicron’s prevalence and severity are not complete; however, the effects of the mutation are not too different from the previous variants.
Dr. Al-Abdel Ali called on travelers to observe all preventive measures and reiterated the importance of immunization; maintaining social distance, and wearing face masks everywhere, including open areas.
Compliance with the health status requirements in the “Tawakkalna” application is essential and is everyone’s responsibility; adding that anyone who violates the conditions will be penalized.
