COVID -19 Vaccine: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority Approves Registration of Moderna Vaccine

Moderna had submitted its formal request for the approval and registration of the vaccine in order to facilitate Saudi health authorities for importing and using the vaccine.

Riyadh, July 11, 2021, — SFDA, Saudi Food and Drug Authority has approved the registration of Moderna COVID -19 Vaccine mRNA-1273 for use in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Moderna had submitted its formal request for the approval and registration of the vaccine in order to facilitate Saudi health authorities for importing and using the vaccine.

The SFDA approval and the registration of the vaccine have been based on the data provided by Moderna. Therefore, as soon as the SFDA requirements were completed, the authority reviewed and evaluated the registration files for all pertinent aspects.

The SFDA has stated that based on the recent approval, the concerned health authorities will begin the import procedures following the protocol standards and requirements. SFDA, on its part, will continue to analyze samples from all incoming vaccine shipments before they are used to ensure the vaccine quality is as per requirement.

Earlier to the approval of the Moderna vaccine, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority had already approved the COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson.
