Madinah — Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched King Salman’s project to expand Quba Mosque in Madinah. The largest expansion project in its history.

The Quba Mosque project will develop its surrounding area and raise the total size of ​​the mosque to 50,000 square meters. Ten times its current size.

The expanded capacity will accommodate 66,000 worshipers; with the most significant expansion in the mosque’s history since the first year of the Prophet’s Hijra.

The Crown Prince and deputy prime minister commended the outstanding care; accorded by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Quba Mosque, Islam’s First Mosque ever. 

This announcement coincides with the Crown Prince’s visit to Madinah, where he prayed in Quba Mosque and inspected the project.

The Crown Prince said this project achieves the goals of Vision 2030 of serving pilgrims and their quality of life. The project will raise the mosque area from 5,035 square meters to 50,000 square meters.

The project will develop and revive 57 historical sites, including wells, farms, and orchards. It will link three of the Prophet’s paths.

The project will link the current Quba Mosque with shaded courtyards on four sides. These links will be functionally and visually connected to the independent prayer halls but not physically attached to the present mosque building.

The project will extend the efficiency of the existing mosque by improving the road network and the surrounding infrastructure. Solve overcrowding and improve the security within the mosque and its squares.
