Riyadh — The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has prepared Saudi airports for the Dakar Saudi Arabia 2022. The Dakar rally is organized by the Ministry of Sports, with the supervision of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation.

The airport preparation includes:

  • Reception centers.
  • Facilitating arrival and departure procedures.
  • E-platforms for travel procedures.

GACA has also arranged 15 helicopters and six monoplanes for air support, emergency evacuation, communications, and broadcasting.

GACA has focused its capacities to equip service platforms and structures, provide all needed facilities in coordination with the appropriate authorities and furnish permits for organizers, operators, and participants through the applicable airports. In addition to issuing three guidebooks (rally license requirements, refueling outside airports, dealing with dust generated by helicopters).

GACA has also allocated permits to use multiple airport and aircraft entry permits and coordinate with the Saudi Air Navigation Services Company to manage air traffic for Dakar Rally operations.

The Dakar Saudi Arabia 2022 is the third successive edition to be hosted by Saudi Arabia after hosting the 2020 and 2021 editions. It is also the biggest event in the world of motorsports; as this year’s edition drew more than 650 riders from 70 countries from around the world; making it the biggest rally in terms of the number of participants.
