Riyadh – Riyadh police located missing Nouf Al-Qahtani, an 11-year-old Saudi girl who went missing after going out of her house to throw garbage. The girl was found thanks to an uncompromising social media campaign to locate her. As a result, 11-year-old Nouf is safe and in good health.
The spokesman of Riyadh police, Maj. Khaled Al-Kraidis announced locating the girl at the end of an extensive search spanning several hours.
The spokesman said the Riyadh region police received information that Nouf Al-Qahtani went missing from the Al-Musa neighborhood of Riyadh on Monday morning. “The security authorities located her in Riyadh city after an intensive search operation. The girl is in good health, and the authorities have completed all the initial legal formalities.”
Nouf’s brother, Thani Al-Qahtani, said the family had come from Al-Harajah village in the southern Asir region for their sick father’s medical treatment in a hospital in Riyadh. “Nouf had gone out Monday morning to throw garbage, but she did not come back and disappeared without any trace.”
The report of Nouf’s missing set the social media alight, with several Twitterati running campaigns to find her.
The hashtag #missingNoufAl-Qahtani appealed to people with any information about the missing girl to immediately contact her family. The campaign coincided with the massive search operation by the security forces. And eventually led to finding the girl in a safe state.
