Riyadh -The Ministry of Interior, Jawazat, and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development have implemented the new service of issuance and renewal of quarterly residency permits (iqama). According to this revised system, iqama fees can now be paid on a quarterly, half-yearly, or nine-month period basis; in addition to the current practice of yearly payments.
The move is to implement a recent decision of the Council of Ministers; to allow the issuance and renewal of iqama linked to a work permit for a minimum period of three months. However, there is an exemption of this for domestic workers and the like.4
The new service is available online on Absher Individual, Absher Business, Muqeem, and Qiwa. Saudi banks have updated their government payments system for the issuance and renewal of iqamas, accordingly.

Employers will pay the expatriate’s fee for Iqama renewal at SR800 per month or SR9,600 in a year. Expatriates can make quarterly payments of the fee for their dependents and companions when they renew their iqama every quarter. The monthly fee for dependents and companions is SR400 per person.
The new mechanism would enable private sector establishments to achieve their cash management with greater efficiency by renewing the work permits of their foreign staff as per their requirements.
