Riyadh — On Monday, Khaled Sultan, the undersecretary of the Public Transport Authority (PTA) for the Saudi Railway Sector; announced that PTA aims to increase five times the number of jobs for Saudis from the existing 20,000 to 100,000 in the railway sector. He also noted that the Haramain High-Speed Railway would employ Saudi women drivers.

Addressing the Virtual Employment Fair opening session here, he said that empowering women to work in the railway sector; is one of the significant components of the Transport and Logistics strategy.

Sultan also referred to the Saudi Railway Polytechnic (SRP) opening the registration of Saudi women’s training program as drivers on the Haramain High-Speed Train. The training program will provide young Saudi women with the necessary training as railway sector employees, especially drivers.

SRP has begun a registration portal from Jan. 2 for the one-year training program through its srp.edu.sa website, and the last date for the registration is Jan. 13. The training classes will commence on Jan. 15, 2022. The program would allow Saudi women to operate the Haramain High-Speed Train that links Makkah and Madinah via Jeddah and Rabegh.
