RIYADH — Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health on Sunday recorded 1,194 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, as the first batch of Umrah pilgrims arrived at the Grand Mosque early Sunday, adhering to coronavirus preventive measures, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

According to the ministry, 12 more people died due to complications caused by the virus. (Read: Ministry of Interior imposes new covid fines for violating regulations)

This report brings the number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 518,143 and the virus-related fatalities to 8,167.

The health ministry also said that a total of 1,164 people had recovered during the past 24 hours, thereby raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 499,129.

The region of Riyadh has reported the highest number of new cases with 293, followed by the Eastern region with 226, the Makkah region with 183, and the Asir region with 122 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom, with just one of them reporting less than ten infections.

According to the ministry, there were 10,847 active cases, and 1,408 were critical.
