LONDON — The United Kingdom designated Hamas and all of its subsidiaries as a “terrorist group” and at the same time gave a warning that members of this group and those who support the group would face stiff jail terms.
The move declaring Hamas a terrorist organization was announced last week and, as expected, was hailed by Israel. This declaration by Britain was followed by similar actions taken by the United States and the European Union.

The Home Office issued the following statement on the subject, “The terrorist group Hamas has today become a proscribed terrorist organization in the UK, in its entirety, following parliament’s approval.”
“This means that active Hamas members or those who advocate support for the group could face jail terms for up to 14 years.”
