Tokyo Olympics 2020: India’s dreams for gold shattered as the female hockey team loses 1-2 against Argentina

The Indian female hockey team fought bravely, Argentina was quick to dash the hopes of the opponent team by leading Argentina to a victory 2-1

In a rather dramatic turn of events, the well-contested semi-final match for gold between the Indian and Argentina female hockey teams did not end well for the former. Despite the gorgeous lead taken by the Indian team at the beginning of the match, starting with Gurjit Kaur scoring the first goal, things quickly went south for this Asian team. Argentina captain Maria Noel Barrionuevo‘s scored an equalizer in the second quarter. Argentine Skipper scored once again in the third quarter and put India behind. Even though the Indian team fought bravely in the final 15 minutes, Argentina was quick to dash the hopes of the opponent team by leading Argentina to a victory 2-1.

Team India would now meet the 2016 reigning champions: Great Britain, in a hockey match for a fighting chance at the bronze medal, on August 6. The Argentina team would play the Netherlands right after, in hopes of getting their hands on the much-coveted gold medal and make history.
