NEOM’s groundbreaking urban project, THE LINE, will commence vertical construction by the end of this year. Developed under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, THE LINE reimagines urban living by eliminating cars and creating a high-density, sustainable environment. The city will span 170 kilometers in length and 1.2 kilometers in width and is designed to house 9 million residents while seamlessly integrating nature and advanced technology.
Denis Hickey, NEOM’s Chief Development Officer, emphasized the city’s vertically layered communities, which challenge conventional horizontal urban layouts. This design optimizes space and enhances livability by reducing congestion and promoting sustainability. THE LINE will operate entirely on renewable energy and incorporate a high-efficiency transportation network, ensuring seamless movement without cars. Cutting-edge digital solutions will enhance daily life while maintaining a balance with natural surroundings.
Current efforts focus on infrastructure development and foundation work, setting the stage for vertical construction later this year. The project’s first phase will cover 20 million square meters of gross floor area, surpassing the scale of iconic structures such as the Burj Khalifa. As the project advances, more details about THE LINE’s initial phase will be unveiled throughout the year. This visionary initiative represents a future where cities harmonize with nature while offering an unmatched quality of life.
