Riyadh— Saudi Arabia has canceled the ‘Host Umrah’ scheme. The scheme enabled Saudi citizens and expatriates to arrange up to five foreign pilgrims to perform Umrah.

Hisham Bin Saeed of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, said that the project has been canceled and is no longer applicable. The ministry began the Host Umrah Visa three years ago.

This scheme allowed a citizen to host any Muslim from outside the Kingdom. An expatriate could arrange their first-degree relatives for performing the Umrah pilgrimage.

The Haj and Umrah ministry will issue visas to citizens based on their civil registry. While foreign residents through their residency permit (iqama).

The scheme demanded citizens and residents to care for and serve those who have been arranged to perform Umrah until their departure. The hosts had the opportunity of repeating the hosting process three times a year.
