Riyadh — The renamed Jeddah Projects Management Office is now the Jeddah Governorate Development Authority. Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman will now head the authority’s Board of Directors.

The decision was taken On Tuesday during the weekly session of the Council of Ministers. The session chaired by King Salman, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, was announced on Tuesday.

The members of the Board of Directors of the authority include the emir of Makkah, deputy emir of Makkah, minister of culture, governor of Jeddah, minister of commerce, minister of tourism, governor of the Public Investment Fund, and the mayor of Jeddah.

The Crown Prince is leading the most significant development projects in various cities of the Kingdom. 

Jeddah governorate is the gateway for Hajj, Umrah pilgrims, and other foreign visitors to the Holy City of Makkah.

Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 targets raising the number of Umrah pilgrims from abroad to 15 million in 2022 and 30 million by 2030, in addition to five million Hajj pilgrims by 2030.

Jeddah is the largest governorate in the Makkah region and includes the largest airport and the largest seaport on the Red Sea coast. The Jeddah Corniche Circuit is the second longest circuit for the international Formula 1 races.

Jeddah has many tourists and cultural and historical sites. The Historic Balad is a World Heritage UNESCO site. The city has several historical palaces named after Khuzam, King Saud, and King Faisal.
