NewsSchools Closed Across Saudi Arabia Due to Heavy Rain and Flooding Risk

According to multiple reports, schools across Saudi Arabia have been closed due to heavy rain and the risk of flooding.

The Saudi Ministry of Education announced that in-person classes would be suspended at all schools in several regions, including Jeddah, Madinah, Rabigh and Khulais. Students will instead participate in remote learning through the Madrasati online platform.

Several universities, including the University of Jeddah, King Abdul Aziz University, Umm Al Qura University, and Taibah University, have postponed scheduled exams and switched to remote learning.

The General Directorate of Civil Defence warned that most parts of Saudi Arabia will experience moderate to torrential thundershowers, accompanied by strong winds, until Friday.

Affected regions include Asir, Baha, Makkah, Madinah, Jazan, Qassim, Jawf, Hail, Tabuk, Northern Borders, Riyadh and the Eastern Province.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid travel by land unless necessary and to exercise caution due to the risk of poor visibility, hail and flash floods.
