Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025. The announcement was made after the crescent moon was sighted, marking the end of Ramadan 1446 AH and the beginning of Shawwal 1, 1446 AH.
The Saudi Supreme Court confirmed the moon sighting on the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025, declaring that Ramadan will conclude after 29 days this year. As per Islamic tradition, Eid ul-Fitr is observed on the first day of Shawwal, immediately following the end of the holy month of fasting.
Nationwide Celebrations and Festivities
Eid ul-Fitr, known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is one of the most significant Islamic celebrations. In Saudi Arabia, the occasion is marked by:
- Eid Prayers: Muslims gather nationwide at mosques and designated prayer grounds in the early morning for the exceptional Eid Salah.
- Family Gatherings: Families and friends come together to share festive meals, exchange gifts, and celebrate the spirit of Eid.
- Charity and Giving: Many people give Zakat al-Fitr, which ensures the less fortunate can also partake in the celebrations.
- Public Holidays: The Saudi government grants public holidays for Eid, allowing citizens and residents to celebrate with loved ones.
Global Observations
As Saudi Arabia follows the Islamic lunar calendar and bases its decisions on moon sighting, many countries worldwide look to the Kingdom’s official announcement before confirming their Eid dates. Some Muslim-majority countries may celebrate Eid on the same day, while others may observe it a day later, depending on local moon sighting reports.
With Ramadan ending, Muslims across Saudi Arabia and the world are preparing for a joyous and spiritual Eid ul-Fitr celebration. The day serves as a reminder of gratitude, unity, and devotion, marking the successful completion of a month of fasting, prayers, and reflection.
Eid Mubarak to all! May this Eid bring peace, happiness, and prosperity to everyone.
