Initial Operations: The first phase will activate three of the six planned metro lines:

  • Line 1: Al Orouba to Batha
  • Line 2: King Khalid International Airport Road
  • Line 3: Intersection of Abdulrahman Bin Auf Street and Sheikh Hassan Bin Hussein Street

Capacity and Reach: The Riyadh Metro will serve up to 1.2 million passengers daily, with a potential capacity of 3.6 million. Once fully operational, the system will cover 176 kilometers and include 84 stations.

Sustainability Features: The metro will use several eco-friendly technologies. Solar panels will provide about 20% of its energy needs. The system will run entirely on renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions and supporting a cleaner urban environment.

Economic Impact: This $22.5 billion project is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative. It will help diversify the economy and reduce reliance on oil. The metro will ease traffic congestion, improve air quality, and raise the quality of life in Riyadh.

The remaining three lines will start operating by mid-December, expanding the metro’s reach across Riyadh. The project will boost public transportation and contribute to urban development and economic diversification in the Kingdom.
